Collective Sustenance

[The bartlett school of Architecture - Workshop]

In March we were invited by @barlettarchucl to participate in ‘Collective Sustenance’: a workshop/dinner/roundtable discussion led by @nyimamurry.

We spoke about the colonial roots of the current climate/land/water crisis, Indigenous water & land protectors in Canada leading the fight for climate action, and how we rise to action in creative practices.

‘Collective Sustenance’ is a workshop/dinner/roundtable discussion based around food, for students, staff and invited artists/architects, which practically explores ways of challenging the various forms of exhaustion and waste experienced within creative practices, and provides a space to discuss ways of creating sustainably.

Fermentation forms the basis of this event and is offered as a conceptual methodology to implement a new trajectory for ‘making’. A sourdough bread-making workshop will mark the start of the event, as we collectively share starters, recipes and techniques. Throughout, invited guests will share responses to the topic of ‘collective sustenance’ reflecting on their own practice around a dinner table as we eat together. This dinner will be one of a series at the Bartlett School of Architecture that seeks to create cultures of care, and make space for conversations between staff and students to encourage diverse responses to changes that need to occur in the context of the climate emergency.
